So one of my goals for 2017 is to practice yoga consistently and here's why I think you should too! Through the practice of yoga, you’ll improve your abilities to concentrate and to relax—the two most essential necessities for a meditation practice. way to improve your mental and physical health? Or maybe you just need something to lower your stress levels, and soothe your mind? Well, I have excellent news my friend; yoga and meditation can give you that.
Okay, so you probably think yoga is not for me. Wrong! Anyone can do it. Yoga is for men, women, kids, teens, the stretchy and non-stretchy. No matter your size, everyone can benefit from yoga. Studies suggest that just 20 minutes of yoga breathing can improve your memory and lift your mood.
I started therapeutic yoga to help with my depression. Now I love going to therapeutic yoga, which happens to be a type of yoga for people with depression and people who have suffered an injury or in chronic pain. If practiced consistently yoga can increase body awareness, sharpens concentration, and relieves chronic stress patterns; something I desperately need.
Suffer from a lot of stress? Yoga can help with that too. Stress affects different areas of the body like the neck, back, headaches and some insomnia. Besides depression, I also practice because it improves memory. I have the worst memory, bad enough that I have a peel and stick calendar on my wall and two planners. When we can open our minds and refresh, you can recall easier and organize your thoughts.
Another great benefit of yoga is meditation. Meditation can help you sleep better, lowers stress and increases productivity. All it takes is some quiet and a few minutes of alone time. The best part is that you can meditate anywhere.
No need to leave the comfort of home, and pay for a session at a yoga studio; unless you want to. There's no wrong way to meditate. The goal is to explore your limits and calm your mind.
The key to successful meditation is practicing it often. Be prepared for your mind to wonder from time to time. Visualizing is a good way to start meditating, that way when your minds begins to drift, shift your focus back to your object. Trust me, over time with consistency you will be able to calm your mind. When you are relaxed and stress-free, your mind will work more efficiently.
6 Benefits of Yoga + Meditation
Are you ready to give yoga and meditation a try? Awesome!
Try implementing yoga and meditation into your routine to turn it into a habit. Choose a time when you’re able to meditate a least 10 to 20 minutes without interruption. That way you can synchronize your meditation right before or after physical yoga.
For meditation, sit with good posture. You can sit on the floor or maybe you'd rather sit in a chair if that is more comfortable for you. You can meditate anywhere.
Try 10 to 15 minutes of meditation before going into work. You'll be ready to take on the day and feel productive. Starting out meditation may seem a little tedious, and you will have trouble calming your mind, that is why it's practiced. Keep working at it until you reach extended periods of time between thoughts.
