The impulse to dream had been slowly beaten out of me by experience. Now it surged up again and I hungered for books, new ways of looking and seeing.
How much do we encourage our children to read? We think, sure we'd love our kids to read more, but it's possible we've sabotaging their impulses. Does our child have a comfortable, quiet, well-lit place to read? A selection of books from which to choose? Do we make a regular visit to the library? Do our children see us reading on a regular basis? Are books a popular present in our home? Do we discuss books and newspaper stories at the table and encourage our children to interject their opinions?
Reading does so much for our children; lets make sure we do all we can to foster a love of books so that our children's impulse to dream is given full rein.
